Breathing a sigh, a woman of medium height placed a hand to her forehead. She stood at the entrance to Luca, once the greatest city in all of Spira. But now...the entire place was only a small village. Actually, now that she thought about it, it reminded her of Besaid. Thoughts of her former home made her heart clench in her chest.
Shaking her head, she banished all thoughts of anything sad. If she continued to think that way, Yuna would be of no use to anyone at all. After all, she had come here to reassure everyone that everything would be alright. She knew that seeing a former High Summoner would help, if only a little. And so, she placed a gentle, practiced smile on her lips and entered, beginning her trip through Luca.

Siegfried stood amongst the scattered residents of the ruined Luca, for once not wearing his full armor. The stuff was part of his identity as a thief, and as such was only to be worn on the job. If he just walked around in public with it the guise would lose its impact. That and anyone he had robbed would recognize him on sight and proceed to chase him throughout the streets. He could probably escape or fight his way out, but that was hardly the point.
The unarmored thief stood before a man behind some kind of pushcart, who seemed willing to trade despite all that had happened to his home. Taking advantage, Siegfried had used the opportunity to peddle some of his gains. At present there was a bit of an argument over the price of a rather formidable ruby. Siegfried was convinced that it could sell for quite a bit, but the vendor....
“9,000!? I couldn’t buy a pair of shoes with 9,000 gil!” The guy behind the cart merely shrugged.
“I’m sorry, but this things has no luster. It’s just big.”
“Sorry nothing! This thing is worth 20,000 at the very-” Siegfried was cut off by a loud series of cheers, all in unison. The shopkeeper looked past him and seemed to light up as well. Somewhat bamboozled, the thief rotated himself for a better look. Raising an arm to shield his good eye from the sunlight he saw what looked like a young woman approaching the wasted city. Somewhat curious as to whom this celebrity might be he left the gemstone behind, placing himself further into the gathering crowd for a better look. He would stand out both due to his scarred right eye and as being the only one not cheering, but he didn’t mind much.

Yuna watched with sad eyes and a calm, gentle smile as people cheered and ran out to meet her. Soon she was completely surrounded by the people of Luca, and had dozens of voices asking her questions as the same time. 'What's happening to the world?' 'Why is this happening?' 'Is the Fayth trying to punish us?' And many other questions that were all very, very similar to her ears. She only smiled and continued to listen for a few more minutes before raising a hand.
"Please everyone, calm down. I promise you that everything will be alright. I'm doing my best to find out why this is happening. I can assure you that you have done nothing to have the Fayth punish you..." She spoke slowly and calmly, in such a reassuring way that many of the townspeople who surrounded her nodded in agreement with her words and began to feel more at ease. The sphere hunter bowed, in the traditional way that people used when praying. She remembered fondly that at one point, years in the past, Tidus had told her that this was the way blitzball players wished each other a good game right before a match.
Everyone in the crowd returned her prayer-bow, before shuffling off back to what they had been doing before. One man remained though; the man who ran the pushcart. "Excuse me, High Summoner Yuna, there is a man who wishes to sell something to me. The object isn't of fine enough quality to spare the money that he asks." He didn't even need to continue, for Yuna to smile, and nod.
"Show me." With a nod, the man began leading her back to his pushcart, all the while wondering where that man had gone.

Siegfried crossed his arms, watching with something close to interest. This woman, whoever she was, appeared to be a sort of celebrity amongst this portion of....whatever you called this mishmash of places. Whatever the case they flocked to her like peasants (which he supposed they were) to royalty. No, not royalty. No mere politician could command this kind of attention. This is more than awe, this is.....love.... If anything it was slightly moving.
The woman, whom he heard titled “Lady Yuna,” seemed to comfort the crowd with only a few words. Had any aristocrat said what she had it would not have gone over so well, and the people would probably have had more questions to launch. But in this case it was enough, and after everyone returned her odd bow (with him standing out again for not being among them) they went back to whatever sort of drudgery they had been up to from the beginning. This left a somewhat dumbfounded Siegfried standing alone as the crowd parted.
With a slight shake of the head the thief turned to go back to the cart, when he realized that the trader had not actually returned to it. Spotting his ruby sitting safely upon the cart, the one-eyed man looked about for the guy who seemed intent of ripping him off. He did not have to look long, for passing him was the man.....followed by Yuna. This got a puzzled raise of the brow out of him. She buying something? Or is he trying to use her to weasel his way out of paying me something? Whatever the case, he approached as well to see what was up.

The sphere hunter looked at the man who approached curiously, her eyes glittering whilst the rest of her face remained stoic, with that same small gentle smile on her lips. She could tell that he was a fighter right away, even before seeing the scar on his face. Turning to smile at the shopkeeper, she asked, "What it is this man wants to sell you?" He immediately picked up the ruby and held it out for her inspection.
"This, Lady Yuna."
She looked down at the stone that was placed in her palm, examining it. It was true that it wasn't the finest of jewels around, but then, even if it had been, he probably wouldn't have been able to get full price for it. In these times he probably would have been lucky to get around 5,000 gil for such a thing. Rubies and other gems were decidedly not in demand at the moment. The only thing they were good for was decoration on weapons, but she knew that most men wouldn't be able to afford a weapon with a ruby like this on it. She looked back over at the shopkeeper and mentally sighed. If he bought the gem from this traveling warrior, then he would have to spend all of his time trying to make the money that he had paid for it.
Turning her attention to the stranger, she gave him her gentle smile. "How much do you want for it?" she asked, to the shopkeeper's surprise. He couldn't believe that she was going to buy the ruby from this fellow. He knew that even someone as rich as she was would have a hard time coming up with that much money. She also knew that it might be a bit tough, if he said too high of a price, so she hoped that it would be within her budget. However, being a sphere hunter did have some advantages. taking out a money pouch, she flicked her eyes to the shopkeeper. "Also, could you please sell me any spheres that you might possess?"
"Right away, Lady Summoner..." The man immediately busied himself with finding the three various spheres that he had been sold, while Yuna returned her gaze to the stranger.

Siegfried approached just as the woman, Yuna, had finished giving the gem a look-over. Had the man called her over to arbitrate a fair price? He was still slightly in the dark as far as who she was, but from what he had seen he had little doubt that they might ask such things of her. When she had turned to him, he expected her to name a final price, or at least inform him that he was overpricing. Her actual words were a bit of a start.
The thief’s expression was a rough mimicry of the vendor’s. Of all ways to handle the situation, she wanted to buy the ruby personally? So that is the kind of person she is. Satisfy both sides at her on expense...... On one hand, Siegfried was tempted to restate his original price; that she had offered to buy meant that she could probably cover it anyway. But on the otherhand, he felt almost guilty asking her for that much. That Yuna had made him feel anything remotely close to guilt was frustrating, but it had happened either way.
His one-eyed gaze was averted slightly downward, one hand lightly messing up his hair in frustration. Finally, with a bit of a groan, he said “....at least 10,000.” He let out a sigh, then rose his head to meet her eyes again. “If I had that much I could break even.” The calculation was rough, but he felt that was about right. Including the cost for ammo, the materials required for his little blast powder contraptions, and the repairs to his armor, 10,000 seemed like enough.
(Bah, that was crap. x_x)

Yuna smiled at him knowingly. He had said 'at least 10,000.' That meant that he could probably use much more than that. She knew that he had probably lowered the price because of her offer, even though he had no idea who she was. He really was a kind person, despite his tough exterior. If he had been having problems with the shopkeeper earlier, she supposed that it was probably only because he hadn't understood that these people wouldn't have the kind of money he requested. She on the other hand, would.
Opening her money pouch, she removed the money that he had asked her for, as well as six thousand extra. She had the gil to spare, seeing as how she had had no reason to spend any of the money she made from being a sphere hunter. The shopkeeper took that moment to return with the three spheres that he had. They glowed faintly; green, orange, and blue. She smiled slightly, before handing him money.
"Lady summoner, this is too much. I should not even charge you at all, let alone 9,000-"
She cut him off with a shake of her head and a smile. "No, you should. These spheres are very important. I'm sure they're probably worth even more than what I gave you." That, of course, was a falsehood. She could tell right away that these spheres, although worth much, would not actually sell for much. They held things from the past, not special powers, or anything of the sort. She was probably the only person in the whole world who would pay so much for memories of a happier time. She then turned back to the stranger and held out the sixteen thousand gil.
"Here you are," she said gently. "Please take it." Just then her eyes widened, and she realized that she hadn't introduced herself yet. She was so used to people already knowing that she had felt no need to, but now that she realized that he still didn't know, she knew that she was being very rude. "Oh! Forgive me for my lack of manners. My name is Yuna. I'm a sphere hunter, and a summoner for Spi-" She caught herself, and her eyes saddened. "The high summoner for the people from Spira."
{{Hehe... yours was much better than mine.}}

The thief watched as Yuna exchanged money for some odd sleek objects, appropriately named “spheres.” He had initially assumed that these spheres would be magicite of some kind. As far as he knew that’s exactly what they were, having never seen magicite. But he doubted that the dead remains of Espers would be sold by a peddler for so little gil. Unless dead Espers were a bit more of a common element in their world of origin. Who was he to question?
When the woman handed him his payment, Siegfried was initially surprised. Having asked for so little, he had not expected the offer to be nearly doubled. He had actually been ready to shove the money back at her (much to his horror) when she insisted he take it. He paused for a moment, fixated on the gil in his hands, when he finally placed it all in a pouch hanging from his right hip. Greed won out in the end.
Yuna formally introduced herself all the while. While Siegfried had known her name from the talking of the crowd, she brought two new titles with her: High Summoner and Sphere Hunter. He assumed that Spira was the name of her world, but the rest was a mystery to him. “I’m Siegfried, the greatest th-” He barely caught himself. “Um....just Siegfried.” One of his hands unconsciously scratched at the back of his head in embarrassment. “Uh, just curious but....what exactly is a High Summoner?”
(And that one was a little forced. Here's hoping for a better one next time!)

Yuna smiled calmly, bowing to him in the same way that she bowed to the villagers before. It wasn't that she thought bowing was necessary, it was more that under the circumstances, it seemed appropriate. After all, she was taught to show respect to those that she met, and bowing was a form of respect. And in a way, he had helped her. If there hadn't been a problem with him and the shop vender, then she probably never would have asked to buy the spheres. She never knew, they just might hold something important.
"It's nice to meet you, Seigfried," she said as she came up from the bow, her face saddened slightly. She didn't want to think about what it meant to be high summoner, since she was basically forced to become it once more. She had hoped that with Sin gone, she would be able to live a life of peace as a sphere hunter, without having to worry about all of the duties that befell a high summoner. She had been mistaken, obviously. She would not be free from this life until her own death.
"A summoner is someone who has gone through special training, in order to learn the ability to summon special creatures, called Aeons. In my world, Spira, people usually only become summoners in a time of great crisis. For me, and for my father, the former High Summoner, it was because a fiend named Sin had attacked. A fiend... if you use different terms in your world, is a monster." Breathing a sigh, she continued. "Sin was a large fiend, giant in fact. He destroyed anything he could get to, unless someone stopped him. That is where the summoner comes in.
"It's the summoner's job to go on a pilgrimage in order to defeat Sin. I went with my trusted Guardians, and somehow, we managed to defeat Sin. I was lucky, because I had made contracts with all of the Aeons, and I had such great friends to help me." She smiled again, still sad. "Does that make any sense to you?"
